Alternative Provision

0161 Education offers a personalized and flexible approach to education for young people who may struggle in traditional school settings. We understand that each student has unique needs and circumstances, and our goal is to provide tailored support that addresses these individual challenges effectively.

Working closely with schools, families, and other support services we will ensure a comprehensive approach to each student's education. We acknowledge students will be dealing with a range of issues such as behavioural challenges, poor attendance, persistent lack of engagement, social anxieties, or SEMH difficulties, our interventions are designed to address these concerns directly. We provide targeted strategies and support to help students manage and overcome their obstacles, fostering a more positive and engaging learning experience. Our ultimate goal is to empower students to take an active role in their learning and enjoy their educational journey.

1-2-1 & Small Group Interventions

These sessions are tailored to meet the specific needs of individuals or small groups of children and young people. These interventions are essential because they provide a focused and personalised approach to addressing emotional, social, or academic challenges. In a 1-2-1 setting, participants receive individualised attention, allowing them to explore their issues in depth, build trust with their mentor, and work on specific goals at their own pace. This tailored support is critical for those who may struggle in larger group settings or need more intensive guidance. Covering a variety of subjects including but not limited to:

  • Healthy Relationships

  • Mental Health and Resilience

  • Violence against Women and Girls

  • Anger

Children and young people can expect to work with someone who cares deeply about them, and who understands local issues in Greater Manchester. They can expect kindness and compassion, and to be challenged beyond their comfort zone by experienced 0161 Education staff who have faced similar challenges, situations and choices growing up.

Assemblies / Talks

Our practitioners will deliver assemblies in any school settings by creating engaging, age-appropriate presentations that combine factual information, personal stories, and interactive elements. From small groups through to full year groups they will work with school leaders to tailor the content to the students' needs, ensuring clear, relatable communication.

Practitioners will encourage dialogue, allowing students to ask questions and reflect on the material, while also highlighting practical takeaways and support resources. Practitioners will hold space for challenging conversations with students to ensure an understanding of the topic. Throughout, they will foster a respectful and inclusive environment for discussing sensitive topics such as:

  • Violence against Women and Girls

  • CSE / CCE

  • Mental Health and Resilience

  • Adultification

Mentoring

Our mentoring services for children and young people are designed to build resilience through a comprehensive and holistic approach that addresses their overall well-being. We recognise that resilience is not just about managing stress or overcoming specific challenges, but also about fostering a broad range of life skills that enable young people to thrive emotionally, socially, and mentally.

Each mentoring relationship is carefully tailored to meet the unique needs of the individual, taking into account their personal circumstances, background, and experiences.

Our mentors will work closely with children and young people to create a safe, trusting environment where they can openly discuss their struggles and aspirations. Mentors also support young people in building their self-esteem, setting achievable goals, and cultivating a growth mindset that encourages perseverance in the face of adversity.

We will empower children and young people to not only overcome immediate challenges but to develop long-term resilience that will serve them throughout their lives. Ultimately, our mentoring services aim to help young people feel confident, supported, and equipped to handle the complexities of growing up in today’s world.
